Cyperus alternifolius (umbrella palm)

General info: Cyperus alternifolius, commonly called umbrella palm, grows best in wet soil in full sun to part shade. This species can also tolerate growing in water up to four inches deep. This plant needs partial shade because it does not tolerate the heat very well. Umbrella palm gets its common name from its grass like frons that are held atop tall stalks resembling an umbrella shape. This species gives nice tropical texture to any marginal planting.
