Amsonia hubrichtii (eastern bluestar)

General info: Amsonia hubrichtii, commonly called eastern bluestar, is a North American native perennial that thrives in medium well drained soil in full sun to part shade. This native herbaceous perennial is clump forming and can reach heights up to three feet tall. Another common name for this species is threadleaf bluestar. It gets this common name from the thin foliage this bluestar has. This Amsonia is adorned with light blue to white attractive delicate clusters of blooms in spring. In summertime this species has attractive green feathery foliage that turns an almost golden color around autumn.

Landscape uses: Amsonia hubrichtii is a very versatile upland wildflower. This native perennial has a wide range of habitats it can grow in. Eastern bluestar can tolerate being planted in full sun and part shade. This Amsonia can be used in both rock gardens and rain gardens. Secondly this species is a perfect choice for a perennial border, or it is beautiful planted in mass. Eastern bluestar’s striking blooms are also used in cut flower arrangements.
