Aster ‘Symphyotrichum’ pilosum (frost aster)

 

General info: Aster pilosum is commonly called frost aster. It is a North American native perennial that thrives in moist soil in full sun to part shade. This aster can tolerate occasional flooding. It can also tolerate full sun only in cooler temperatures. It will need partial shade if planted somewhere that has high temperatures during summer months. This species is typically found growing in moist woodlands, along roadways, and prairies. Aster pilosum gets its common name from the large amount of densely packed white daisy like blooms that resemble frost or snow. It can reach heights up to four feet tall and spreads by self-seeding.
