General Info: Carex leavenworthii, commonly called leavenworth sedge, is a North American native perennial that thrives in moist to dry soil in full sun to part shade. Unlike most other Carex this sedge can handle dryer areas once established. This species can be found growing in rocky woodlands or sandy upland meadows and thickets. Leavenworth sedge is a clump forming species and stays pretty neat. It has nice uniform arching green foliage almost all year round.

Landscape Uses: Carex leavenworthii is a very useful and versatile native sedge. This species has very attractive foliage and would be great to use in mass in an understory planting. It naturalizes very well. It is also tolerant of dry sandy sites. Making this species a great choice for upland plantings as well.
