Carex pensylvanica (Pennsylvania sedge)

General info: Carex pensylvanica, commonly called Pennsylvania sedge, is a North American native perennial that thrives in dry to medium soil in partial shade to full shade. This native sedge is typically found growing in shaded woodlands and thickets. It grows in eight-inch-tall clumps and will slowly spread out. Pennsylvania sedge is semi evergreen and has delicate grass like foliage.

Landscape uses: Carex pensylvanica is a very attractive native sedge. This species stays pretty low to the ground and is green all year round in areas with moderate winters. It would be a great option for a shaded groundcover or lawn substitute. Pennsylvania sedges’ uniformly arching foliage is nice added texture to a cottage garden or shade garden.
