Eragrostis spectabilis (purple lovegrass)

General info: Eragrostis spectabilis, commonly called purple love grass, is a North American native ornamental grass that grows best in sandy soils and full sun. This species is drought and infertile soil tolerant. It is adorned with delicate fluffy purple blooms hence its common name. These blooms give this grass an attractive pink to purple cotton candy like cloud appearance. This species stays very low only getting about two or three feet tall.

Landscape uses: Eragrostis spectabilis is a very attractive and versatile native bunchgrass. Firstly, this species is especially attractive grown in groups or masses. Its purple blooms that appear in summer give this species great color and texture. Purple lovegrass is also a very tolerant and resistant to harsh environments. Which makes this a very attractive option for dry full sun locations with poor soil. Lastly this ornamental grass is a great addition to meadows or naturalized areas. It will give a great break in texture and stays very low. Making it an excellent option for edging of a path or garden bed.
