Lobelia siphilitica (great blue Lobelia)
General info: Lobelia siphilitica, commonly called great blue Lobelia, is a North American native perennial that thrives in medium to wet soils in full to partial sun. This native clump forming perennial is a high marsh species. It is typically found growing in wet areas along ponds and streams, swamps, and wet meadows. Great blue Lobelia will reach heights up to three feet tall. It is adorned with bright blue tubular clusters of blooms atop erect tall stalks.
Landscape uses: Lobelia siphilitica is a very versatile native high marsh species. It is adorned with stunning late summer blooms that attract lots of pollinators like bees and butterflies. This would be a great addition to any pollinator garden or native rain garden. This species does prefer moist soils. Making this a perfect species for the edges of ponds or streams. Lastly this species would be great planted in mass along a body of water or planted in low spots that stays consistently moist. It would also bring good coverage and a bright pop of color to these areas.
