General info: Pontederia cordata, commonly called pickerel weed, is a North American native marginal aquatic perennial. Pickerel weed can grow in standing water up to 3-5 inches deep. This aquatic perennial needs full sunlight and can get up to two to four feet tall. It is typically found growing in ditches, swamps, and along the edges of ponds or streams. This beautiful native has bright green erect foliage topped with bright purple cylindrical blooms.
