General info: Vernonia angustifolia, commonly called tall ironweed, is a North American native perennial that thrives in medium to dry soils in full sun to part shade. This species will get about four feet tall and is drought tolerant once established. It is found growing along roadways and forested areas. Tall ironweed prefers sandy occasionally moist soils. Like other ironweed species this variety is also adorned with bright purple fluffy blooms. Unlike some other ironweed species though this one has very narrow foliage and can grow in dry conditions.
